Moya Meaker 2021: Our best-selling Pinot is back!
Moya Meaker 2021
Our best-selling Pinot is back!
One of our best-selling Pinots and bound to be the first bottle finished on your dinner table, make sure you stock up on the latest Moya Meaker Pinot Noir. Made by rockstar winemaker Jean Smit of Damascene, we tasted the bright, refined 2021 with him a few weeks back. It’s sure to sell out just as quickly as the 2020.
The 2021 has a bouquet of pressed rose petals, red cherry, deep plums, and spice, followed by dried fynbos and crushed stone on the palate. It’s moreish and pure, with blood orange zest and fine tannins. The Pinot is joined by the maiden release of their small-batch Riesling 2021. The wine is electric and reminiscent of a Mosel Riesling, with aromas of lemon curd, elderflower, and white peach. The palate follows with intensity and a driving acidity, giving way to a long, dry, herbaceous finish. Don't miss out on the last few bottles!
From high-density, high-altitude Elgin vineyards planted in 2010 in Bokkeveld shale, Moya Meaker has the perfect terroir for Pinot Noir. The grapes were destemmed and whole-berry fermented, resulting in a soft, pure fruit extraction. It matured in 2000-litre Austrian oak foudrés as well as 300-litre Burgundian oak barrels (25% new).
Named after David Curl‘s mother-in-law, a Miss SA in 1959, Moya Meaker celebrates her radiance and lively persona. This exciting property is currently regenerating the soil to plant Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on incredibly steep slopes for future releases. Watch this space.
