‘I've tasted this on three occasions and I'm convinced that it's a brilliant Rubicon release, right up there with the best reds in the country. Featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, this is a beautifully poised, elegant cuvée with cassis, red berry and sweet spice flavours, a herbal undertone and fine, filigree tannins. 2026-40’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2024, 98/100
‘A Cape classic, pioneer Cab & Merlot-led Bordeaux blend, typically bold, assertive & brawny yet precisely poised. Delightful earthy mineral core, with iodine & intense blackcurrant, graphite & delicate leafy highlights. 50% new oak, 18 months. Finer than 2020, there was no 2019 released.’ – Platter's Guide, 5*(95/100)
‘Consisting of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, maturation lasted 18 months in 300-litre barrels. The nose shows red and black berries, hints of rose and dried herbs, vanilla and pencil shavings while the palate is medium-bodied (alc: 14.2%) with good freshness and fine tannins. A seamless wine with great fruit expression and a long finish.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100

Producer information | Meerlust Estate, owned by the Myburgh family, has been in the family for eight generations. Located 5km from False Bay, the property was given the name 'Meerlust' from the original owner, which means 'pleasure of the sea'. The Meerlust name is synonymous with tradition, elegance and longevity. In fact, it was their Cabernet Sauvignon, produced since 1975, that was the first to carry the Meerlust label. |
