'Approaching its 30th birthday, cab-based blend with merlot, cab franc still a Cape benchmark. Splendid 2007 reflects work in the vineyard, with remarkably intense fruit core, currently masked by firm, integrated tannin which should preserve charms to 2025. Like 2006 (4.5 stars), restrained not showy.' – Platter's Guide, 5*
'74% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot and 11% cabernet franc. Bright, saturated ruby-red. Brooding aromas of cassis, dark chocolate, licorice, violet and pepper. Dense, broad and sweet, with a youthful reserve to the intense flavors of dark berries, tobacco and spices. Already shows a plush texture but there's terrific sappy energy at the core. Finishes very long and aromatic, with fine, building tannins and the structure for long aging.' – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 92/100
'One of the best vintages of Rubicon to date, and for the price it's a fantastic value that's great for building up your cellar. Right now, the wine is still young and tight, with firm, gripping tannins that need some time to mellow. Fortunately, there's a great concentrated black-fruit core and enough acidity alongside the tannins to support long-term aging. Spicy and earthy, with accents of black tea, cedar and crushed violets. Try after 2016.' – Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 92/100 (Wine Enthusiast's Best of Year 2012)
'Deep garnet. Leafy but not green, silky yet dense tannins and lovely freshness. Elegant and long. Seems surprisingly light on its feet. Really persistent.' – Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20

Producer information | Meerlust Estate, owned by the Myburgh family, has been in the family for eight generations. Located 5km from False Bay, the property was given the name 'Meerlust' from the original owner, which means 'pleasure of the sea'. The Meerlust name is synonymous with tradition, elegance and longevity. In fact, it was their Cabernet Sauvignon, produced since 1975, that was the first to carry the Meerlust label. |
