‘Intense, vivid opaque youthful purple-ruby appearance. The wine shows pronounced lifted floral perfume on the nose with a brooding and seductive dark berry fruit, musk, wild mushrooms and hints of iron, savoury richness and spice and an intense vibrant minerality. On the palate there are very pure Pinot fruit flavours on entry with red cherry and musk flavours coupled with fresh acidity. The wine has layered complexity with great elegance and finesse. Very fine lacy, almost powdery tannin on the finish.’ – Meerlust Estate

'2019 follows in fresher, more supple structure of 2018 (91 pts). Dark cherry, just a suggestion of undergrowth & whiff toasty oak combine in aromatic complexity, all refrained on the supple yet fresh palate. Properly dry, with just enough ageworthy grip, a pinot elegant & full of charm.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)

'The virused BK5 plantings have been pulled out and replaced by new blocks of the Burgundian 115 clone, resulting in a more perfumed, nuanced wine. Juicy and textured, with fine 57% new wood, filigree tannins, good reduction and a core of raspberry, pomegranate and wild strawberry. 2022-27.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 92/100

'The wine shows a vibrant garnet colour with a youthful appearance. On the nose the wine shows pronounced lifted floral perfume with a brooding and seductive red berry fruit, earthy, wild mushrooms and hints of spice. On the palate there are very pure Pinot fruit flavours on entry with red cherry and musk flavours coupled with fresh acidity. The wine has layered complexity with great elegance and finesse. Very fine lacy, almost powdery tannin on the finish.' – Chris Williams, Winemaker

Producer information Meerlust Estate, owned by the Myburgh family, has been in the family for eight generations. Located 5km from False Bay, the property was given the name 'Meerlust' from the original owner, which means 'pleasure of the sea'. The Meerlust name is synonymous with tradition, elegance and longevity. In fact, it was their Cabernet Sauvignon, produced since 1975, that was the first to carry the Meerlust label.
