About Meerlust Estate:
Meerlust Estate, owned by the Myburgh family, has been in the family for eight generations. Located 5km from False Bay, the property was given the name 'Meerlust' from the original owner, which means 'pleasure of the sea'. The Meerlust name is synonymous with tradition, elegance and longevity. In fact, it was their Cabernet Sauvignon, produced since 1975, that was the first to carry the Meerlust label.

Tasting notes:
85% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot

'Both sombre & lively notes of spicy tobacco along with dark fruit on 2016 - with dollops of cab franc & petit verdot adding as usual to complexity. Serious, richly flavoured, with sweet, bright fruit. Many years to go.' – Platter's Guide 2020 ed., 4.5* (92/100)

Deep, youthful purple colour with a ruby rim. Intense dark brambly fruit on the nose, mulberry, liquorice and damson plum with hints of dark chocolate and spice, tempered by a stony minerality. The full bodied palate offers generous, ripe, pure Merlot fruit with refreshing acidity, structured yet silky tannins and pronoun3.4ced length and minerality. There is a core of juiciness, opulence and richness typical of the variety, while the Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot lend greater complexity to the wine.

Alc: 14% | RS: 2.2 g/L | TA: 6.13 g/L | PH: 3.49

Viticulture:
Selected from vineyards of 24 year old Estate-grown Merlot plantings situated on well drained yet clay-rich Oak leaf, Vilafontes and Klapmuts soil. 40% vendage vert (green harvesting cluster removal) at 60% veraison to ensure concentration and even-ripening. Leaves around the bunches were removed 3 weeks before harvesting to ensure physiological ripeness of the berries.
