Wine Cellar Weekly: Rare Stellenbosch wines on Auction, new Insiders' case, best value Pinot Noir & more

Steeped in tradition, Stellenbosch’s winemaking history stretches back to the 17th century. Along with the historical names, new producers continue to keep Stellenbosch at the apex of South African wine. This sought-after viticultural region is known for its powerful Cabernet Sauvignon and other styles coveted by wine collectors alike. Don't miss the online Strauss & Co Stellenbosch-themed auction which comes to a close on Monday, 7 June.

June's new monthly value pack has been released as well as our new Personal Investment Portfolio (PIP). We have the best value Pinot Noir from Thorne & Daughters, Genevieve's first Rosé Cap Classique and a delicious Spanish Garnacha.

Thorne & Daughters, Copper Pot Pinot Noir 2020
R 165 per bottle

John and Tasha Seccombe are known for their stellar whites but their 2020 value Copper Pot Pinot Noir is a knock out of the park. Coming in at R 165 it is an absolute steal. A satisfyingly dry Pinot with aromas of cranberry, pomegranate, hibiscus and fresh fennel. The palate shows nuanced acidity, delicate herbaceous notes and a touch of nutmeg. Compact complexity in a bottle.

Laventura, Garnacha 2018
R 300 per bottle

The Laventura Garnacha 2018 is one of the exciting single vineyard wines causing a fuss in Rioja. Produced by a Swartland Young Gun, it is a true expression of terroir as the tightly-coiled fruit and fine textured tannins showcase its pure elegance and power. Offering exceptional aging potential, the 2018 gives generously as it unwinds in the glass over good food and company.
