Wine Cellar Weekly: Single-vineyard Cinsault from Swartland pioneer & more

Each week, there's an abundance of wine we want to share with you. Today, we're highlighting some great finds which might have otherwise gone unnoticed. Pontet-Canet produces some of the most prestigious wines in Bordeaux, so we're thrilled to offer 3 magnums of the 100-point 2010 vintage to serious Bordeaux collectors. From the Loire, we have 3 Melon de Bourgognes from Domaine Landron for the Chablis and Chenin Blanc lovers. There are limited bottles left of Adi Badenhorst's Ramnasgras Cinsault – one of SA's top Cinsaults. Lastly, the Carinus duo (Danie and Hugo) not only grow highly sought-after grapes but also produces wines well-worth seeking out.

Pontet-Canet, Pauillac Magnum 2010
R 12,750 per bottle

We are excited to have three 100-point magnums online from one of the most famous producers in Pauillac. One of the best and most historic vintages for the Bordelais, especially the left bank, Pontet-Canet's 2010 received heaps of praise. Jancis Robinson writes, 'it's hard to imagine any château bettering this effort in 2010,' and Robert Parker opines that this is a '50-75-year wine'. Wine Advocate says it best: 'The freshness, laser-like precision, and full-bodied, massive richness and extract are simply remarkable to behold and experience.' A must for serious Bordeaux fans.

Carinus, Polkadraai Heuwels Chenin Blanc 2020
R 335 per bottle

Danie and Hugo Carinus's Polkadraai Heuwels 2020 is a Stellenbosch Chenin made by Chris Alheit. After years supplying their sought-after grapes to some of SA's top producers, Danie and Hugo decided to produce their own wines under the Carinus Family Vineyards label with the help of Lukas van Loggerenberg. With yellow apple, peach and honey melons, the 'well-balanced' 2020 is more 'sun-kissed' this vintage writes Christian Eedes.

AA Badenhorst, Ramnasgras Cinsault 2019
R 465 per bottle

Adi Badenhorst's single-vineyard wines are as charismatic and unforgettable as the man himself. His Ramnasgras Cinsault 2019, from dryland-farmed, 53-year-old vines, is an exceptional representation of the vineyard. It shows generous, elegant red fruit complemented by bright acidity, chalky, savoury tannins and Swartland earthiness. We agree with Tim Atkin MW – the only way to sell more Cinsault in SA is to 'make more as good as this.'

Landron, new releases
From R 290 per bottle

'The Loire as a whole is surely France's Bargain Garden,' writes David Schildknecht (Vinous) and the Landron wines are sure to excite the palates of Chablis and Chenin lovers alike. They are driven by a distinctive minerality and salinity attributed to eroded igneous and metamorphosed rocks typical of the Muscadet Sévre et Maine region. All 100% 'Melon B', these wines present delicious fruit concentration of citrus and freshly cut apple that display a youthful character and offer the perfect pairing to shell fish and oysters.
