Hot off the press: Tim Atkin's 2021 Special SA Report
SA's best wines in 2021

We've offered many of these great wines during the year. Many are small-batch, allocated and sold out. However, there are a handful of the top wines still available – the absolute pinnacle of what SA has to offer. These highlights include the wonderful set from Peter-Allan Finlayson (Winemaker of the Year for his nine 95+ Crystallum and Gabriëlskloof wines), the last bottles of the 2018 Taaibosch Crescendo (97) (this year's Red Wine Discovery of the Year), the just-released 2019 Thelema Rabelais (98), and Klein Constantia's 2018 Vin de Constance (the Sweet wine of the Year). The soon-to-be-released 2020 Mullineux Iron Chenin Blanc was the White Wine Discovery of the Year, and Elizma Visser from Olifantsberg was named Young Winemaker of the Year.

Report breakdown: Takeaways from the 2021 report
Chenin Blanc, Syrah and SA Pinot on top

Tim tasted over 1,700 wines for this report and only 161 got 95 points or higher. These wines set the benchmarks in SA with Chenin Blanc leading the pack with thirty-one 95+ scores. Now established as our best grape variety, SA is home to the best Chenins in the world according to Tim. Another take away from the report is SA's exceptional set of Syrahs. With seventeen 95+ ratings, it is our leading red wine category. Notable too is that the Pinot Noir revolution is in full swing with fourteen wines cracking the 95-point barrier. This is remarkable if we look back over the last 10 years. We would like to congratulate and thank Tim for another excellent report, his enthusiasm for South African wine and his hard work. Be sure to buy a copy here. It is well-worth the read for his insights and perspective.
