Mature Chapoutier parcel: Côtes-du-Rhône, Côte-Rôtie & Châteauneuf-du-Pape
We are excited to have found a mature parcel of reds from the Rhône’s greatest producer, M. Chapoutier. While these are uncertain times, we still offer door-to-door delivery and have put new no-contact delivery and collection precautions in place. See below.
Michel Chapoutier’s landholding, track record and incredible consistency across entry-level wines through to single-vineyard cuvées are unparalleled in the world of wine. In 2019, Chapoutier ranked 4th amongst the 'World's Most Admired Wine Brands'.
From the lowly Côtes-du-Rhône appellation, the Belleruche isn’t meant to age for a decade but this 2006 unwooded Grenache blend is holding well and shows no signs of decay. It is vibrant and spicy with lots of juicy, yet savoury fruit. It's somewhat rustic with a moreish finish. Only 20 cases are available at this once-off, terrific price. 88 points.
On another level, we have the La Bernardine from Châteauneuf-du-Pape – a similar unwooded Grenache blend. 2004 was a classic, yet ripe vintage that has proved its worth over time. 16 years has added an array of complexity and this is now in full maturity. It's velvety, soft and unfolds with waves of heady citrus, wild meat, white pepper and a salty liquorice finish – a must-have for CdP lovers. 92 points.
Finally, we offer a few cases of the Les Bécasses from the stunning 1999 vintage. This Côte-Rôtie is more thrilling, with a touch more detail and depth. Notes of black pepper, baked plum and Chinese spice overlay meaty flavours and sweet fruit. It's a fine expression of Syrah and this benchmark appellation! 93 points.
