Tasting notes
Vergelegen, Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
'Matured for 16 months in French oak, 40% new. Complex aromatics with top notes of violets and some leafiness before red and black berries, pencil shavings, earth and spice. The palate shows pure fruit, vibrant acidity and fine tannins, the finish long and savoury. Full bodied yet elegant, this has both intensity and intricacy of flavour.' – Winemag Prescient Cabernet Sauvignon Report 2021, Top 10 (93/100)
'Dollop of merlot, cab franc in ripe 2015, but varietal blackcurrant & cigarbox dominate aromas. Intense fruit, yet element of refined austerity makes for understated effect. 55% new oak, 14.3% alcohol in balance. For long haul.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (94/100)
Vergelegen, GVB White 2019
NOTES ON THE 2018: 'Every bit as good as the 2017, even though the vintage is less celebrated, this is an equal marriage of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc with an even lower pH. Grapefruit and elderflower flavours combine appealingly with the stylish vanilla oak, embellished by a herbal undertone. Drink 2021-27.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 95/100
