Trimbach – 'Probably the most famous Riesling estate in all Alsace'

It’s no surprise that Trimbach wines are featured on the winelists of every single 3 Michelin-starred restaurant in France – all 27 of them! The 400-year-old family business produces arguably 'the single most admired dry Riesling made anywhere' according to Jancis Robinson. This bastion of classical winemaking has, over 13 generations, become 'the most famous Riesling estate in all Alsace' writes Wine Advocate.

We are excited to now offer the 2017 Riesling Réserve which is produced from mostly low-yielding old vines on limestone soils around Ribeauvillé. It expresses the typically electric structure that allows Trimbach’s wines to age for decades, along with beautifully pure and aromatic fruit. The warm 2017 vintage is regarded as one of the finest in the last decade. Browse all Trimbach wines here.

Trimbach Riesling Réserve 2017 - 93 Wine Spectator

All the Trimbach wines are bone-dry in style with moderate to low alcohol levels. We also offer the softer, earlier drinking 2017 Riesling as well as their 2 ultra-famous cuvées. The 50-year-old Rosacker vineyard, located in the village of Hunawihr, is just 1.67 ha and has been in the Trimbach family for more than 200 years. It produces tiny quantities of the iconic Clos Ste Hune.

The other famous Trimbach Riesling is the Cuvée Frédéric Emile – a blend of the Grands Crus Geisberg and Osterberg. At 45 years old, its marl-limestone-sandstone and fossil-flecked Muschelkalk vineyards produce a bigger structure compared to more delicate Clos Ste Hune. Please express your interest in these 2 cuvées by contacting Jolette@winecellar.co.za, they are not available for purchase online.

Trimbach, Riesling Réserve 2017
A lovely nose of petrol and white pepper leads to flavors of apricot, star anise, lemon peel and herb in this elegant, light-bodied white, defined by finely cut, steely acidity. Offers a long, mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2030. – Wine Spectator, 93/100

Luminous straw-green. Mint and melon on the deep, refined nose. Fresh and lively in the mouth, hints of celery and chamomile complicating ripe pomaceous orchard fruit flavors. The acidity is well integrated, and the long finish is focused and energetic. There’s a great deal more depth here than in Trimbach’s 2017 entry-level Riesling. This is an outstanding Alsace Riesling that is the equivalent of many Riesling Grand Cru wines made by other producers. 2019 – 2027. – Vinous, 92/100

Trimbach, Riesling 2017
A sleek, minerally white, with well-cut acidity defining flavors of white peach, pine and preserved lemon, showing a rich hint of passion fruit coulis. Fine and creamy, offering a lasting finish. Drink now through 2027. – Wine Spectator, 91/100

Trimbach, Cuvée Frédéric Emile 2011
Trimbach’s 2011 Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile leads with a fascinating nose mingling quinine and smoky black tea with the more usual lime, white peach and crushed chalk. Silken-textured and generously juicy, with hauntingly bittersweet inner-mouth floral perfume, it opens-up in an infectiously juicy manner one seldom expects from youthful exemplars of this cuvée, thus drinking-well before one is able to purchase it! (But at least you can safely count on savoring it in its elegant prime through at least 2025.) Lentil sprout, peach kernel, and almond oil add to the diversity of flavors already intimated on the nose in a superbly sustained, bell-clear and invigorating as well as surprisingly and delightfully buoyant finish. 2014 – 2025. – Wine Advocate, 93/100

Trimbach, Clos Ste Hune 2012
Cool, aristocratic and iron-rich on the nose where some flinty notes are displayed the 2012 Riesling Clos Ste Hune starts very pure and demanding on the nose. On the palate you can find as much energy and tension as in an electric power station. The wine is very clear, fresh and pure, shows lots of salt on the very elegant and seductive palate. The finish is very long and complex and indicates a terrific aging potential. – Wine Advocate, 95/100
