Unprecedented Rhône line-up: Strauss & Co Fine Wine Online Auction
The latest online auction with our partner Strauss & Co is now live from 6 – 14 April, see here. We expect keen interest over this lockdown period, especially with the radical depreciation of the ZAR.
The unprecedented list features both new-wave and iconic producers of Syrah and other Rhône varieties. Traditional icons such as Hartenberg and De Trafford, through to Boschkloof, Mullineux and Savage, should attract all Rhône lovers. The unreleased 2011 Porseleinberg is surely the rarest of the local offerings, with other sought-after lots including the Rall AVA Syrah and Sadie Family Old Vine Series.
Four cases of the incredible 2005 Syrah from Boekenhoutskloof, the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year 2007 winner, is another key wine in the line-up. Arguably SA’s most iconic Syrah, this 2005 comes directly from the Boekenhoutskloof cellar and really shows its valour. Perfectly mature with floral and meaty notes over lush red berry fruit and serious power, it is unbelievably poised and finely structured. See my Instagram video (@roland.peens) for the full tasting note.
There are also 6 bottles of the Rhône Valley’s most sought-after, icon wine from Château Rayas. Here is a tremendous opportunity to purchase the classic 2005 vintage direct from the property at (likely) well-below the international market price.
