'Marelise Niemann is something of a Grenache specialist, always managing to tease something interesting out of an under-planted (at least in South Africa) variety.' – Tim Atkin MW
Dear *|FNAME|*,
It is possibly the most surreal and strange time in Wine Cellar's history to be selling fine wine. But it's what we do and love, and our vocation is to communicate fine wine and bring you the best releases in SA and the world. This is our calling and, so we keep going...
Today's mailer is all about an immensely talented Young-Gun winemaker who embodies authenticity and excellence – Marelise Niemann. Flying somewhat under the radar, her track record for consistently producing one of SA's finest Grenache Noirs is second to none.
The 2019 Momento Grenache Noir is ethereal and wonderfully complex, underlining SA's take on the variety. Somehow, scores and tasting notes never manage to define the drinking pleasure this wine offers.
It shows a sense of detail and perfume with fine-grained, powdery tannins that resolve and settle beautifully on the palate. As one of Wine Cellar's favourites, and usually very limited, we are glad to have more of this vintage available, allowing us to offer it more widely than usual.
'Marelise is a champion of Grenache, which in her hands makes elegant, Pinot-like wines.' – Jamie Goode
'Marelise Niemann, formerly assistant winemaker at Beaumont Family Wines, is a star to watch in Bot River.' – Decanter
'My favourite of Marelise's quartet is usually the Grenache.' – Tim James
