‘The glory of dry Riesling: The greatest white wine grape and also, arguably, the wine world’s greatest underdog.’ – Jancis Robinson
5th generation grower Clemens Busch and his wife Rita have gained a cult following for their laser-sharp, richly textured and terroir-defined wines. They focus on dry, elegant Rieslings that express the complex terroir of the historic Mosel region. An organic and biodynamic pioneer, Clemens eschewed using herbicides way back in the 1970s, while working alongside his father.
While their dry (trocken) wines are some of the finest, long-ageing Rieslings in all of Germany, the off-dry Kabinett is a ‘fabulous, hedonistic Riesling’ according to Wine Advocate, offering ‘elegance, piquancy and stimulating salinity’. Wine Spectator calls the 2019s ‘very promising and gorgeously savoury’. Jancis Robinson opines that 2019 might be the breakthrough vintage for Mosel Riesling with its exceptional quality. ‘The characteristic of the 2019s is that, despite their appetising acid levels, so many of them are already a delight to drink,’ says Jancis.
