Leeuwenkuil Heritage Chenin Blanc 2019 Bottle size: 750ml
South Africa, Swartland
R205
'Wholebunch, wild ferment/9 months in mostly new oak, but 2019 handles it with ease. Preserved quince & apricot, Lemon Cream biscuit savoury seam, there’s lots going on. Richly textured, flavourful, very long finish. Can age. More character than 2018 (4 stars, 89 pts).' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (93/100)
'It might seem strange to talk about white wines in terms of their tannic structure, but it makes sense on this naturally fermented Chenin made in partnership with Loire producer Vincent Carême. Grippy, intensely stony and concentrated, with layers of thatch, citrus peel and aniseed and a savoury finish. Drink 2021-27.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 92/100
