‘This classically aromatic & supple Cabernet Sauvignon invites with notes of mulberry, dried orange rind, Kapokbos and pencil shavings on the nose. The palate opens to mouth quenching cassis and fresh Sapphire plum, which are cupped by elegant, silky tannins. The richness and power of this wine are balanced by beautiful freshness and finesse.’ – Mullineux & Leeu

‘Usually from Stellenbosch’s Firgrove (’our oldest dryland bushvine cab source’) & Polkadraai, 2019 adds old-vine Helderberg fruit to enhance mid-palate. Stately presence & length, with exquisite fruit detail, graceful yet commanding tannins, variety’s brilliant acidity when nurtured in cool vineyards. Also 1.5L, as all except Radicales Libres.’ – Platter’s Guide, 5*(96/100)

‘The Leeu Passant Cabernet Sauvignon uses dryland grown fruit from Firgrove, the Helderberg and the Polkadraai Hills. It's a subtle, grassy, medium-bodied style that looks towards Bordeaux rather than the Napa Valley, showing firmish tannins, bright acidity and herbal red cherry and blackcurrant leaf fruit. 2023-29’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 93/100

‘The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon has a very earthy nose, peppermint and rooibos intertwining with the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, with a supple opening and fine acidity. I am seeking a little more structure and grip toward the austere finish. 2021-2032’ – Vinous, Neal Martin, 90/100

Producer information Since 2013, Chris and Andrea Mullineux have been working on a new project that focuses on vineyards outside of the Swartland appellation which have been specially selected by Rosa Kruger. Together with their partner Analijt Singh they launched their game changing Leeu Passant wines. Produced from old vines, including the oldest registered red wine vineyard in South Africa, these wines redefine the South African wine landscape. Their inspiration comes from past successes of the 50s, 60s and 70s, like Château Libertas and Rustenberg Dry Red. Their wines speak of South Africa's heritage and bring the unique wines of the past into the future.
