‘This wine has a medium red colour. On the nose we have primary fruit of red cherry, black cherry and black currant. Medium body, acidity and palate with soft tannins.’ – MacRobert and Canals

This vintage has not been rated yet, see vintage 2018

'South African Bryan MacRobert is behind the Laventura wines which he makes in a small cellar in Logroño from small parcels of old vine fruit. The Garnacha (90%) and Tempranillo (10%) for this bright, unoaked Rioja comes from dry-farmed vineyards across Rioja's trio of sub-regions. It’s a striking red colour with ripe redcurrant and raspberry fruit on the nose. There’s a touch of black pepper spice on the palate and a sophisticated juicy finish. A very modern Rioja. Drinking Window 2021 - 2028.' – Chris Wilson, Decanter, 93/100 (Best 18 new Spanish wines to try)

'The red blend 2018 Lanave was produced with equal parts of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo from small plots in different parts of Rioja. It was produced in a light and approachable style; it's fruit driven, with notes of berries, and has a medium body with fine chalky tannins. It's straightforward but serious, very representative of the wines from Rioja. It fermented with natural yeasts in concrete vats, where it matured for 12 months until bottling. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2019. Drink 2020 - 2023.' – Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, 90+/100 (Oct 2020)

Producer information Former Young Gun, Bryan MacRobert, moved to Rioja 7 years ago to start Laventura. Today, his new terroir-driven wines are causing a fuss! ‘I want to make Rioja as it once was. I’m trying to make honest wines,’ says Bryan whose wines are refreshing, innovative and true-to-terroir style of Rioja. With cellars located in the centre of La Rioja, they source high-quality grapes from the whole region. The vineyards are often 40 to 90 years old and harvesting is done by hand. ‘It’s time to take Rioja far more seriously,’ writes Tim Atkin MW as the Rioja landscape changes dramatically.
