‘Wow. What a second wine with berries, chocolate, and coffee beans. Black berries. Full and layered with such incredible length and intensity. The real deal. Hard not to drink now but will age beautifully. Try after 2029.’ – James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, 96/100

‘Based on 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2020 La Gravette De Certan offers lots of ripe black cherries, tobacco, leafy herbs, chocolate, and damp earth. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, seamless, and straight-up sexy, it's perfect for drinking over the coming 15 years. If there's a better second wine out there, I don't know of it.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, 95/100

‘Inky plum colour, with tight tannins that really need time to open, great structure, with conentrated cassis and bilberry fruits. Right now this is structure rather than flesh, a serious Gravette that needs another three to four years in bottle, but huge potential for a finessed take on Pomerol 2020. 30hl/h yield, 50% new oak. 2024-2040’ – Jane Anson, janeanson.com, 92/100

‘The 2020 La Gravette de Certan, which comes from younger vines (Merlot from 1998 and Cabernet Sauvignon from 2012), has a pretty nose with pencil shavings infusing the black fruit, atypical for this cuvée. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, very smooth, quite nervy with a citrus-like, very focused, peppery finish. Very fine. 2025-2038’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 91/100

‘The 2020 La Gravette de Certan is broad and demonstrative, bursting with aromas of cherries, dark berries, licorice, cedar and dried herbs. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, it's a layered, textural Gravette, with ripe tannins, lively acids and an expansive finish. 2023-2040’ – William Kelley, Wine Advocate, 91/100

Producer information Vieux Château Certan is one of the oldest Bordeaux properties in Pomerol. The estate's history dates back to almost 1770. In 1924, the château was sold to the Belgian wine merchant Georges Thienpont. This successful businessman wanted to know which of his clients were buying his wine. To get this information, he decided to place the now famous pink capsule on the bottle. Thanks to this technique, Georges was easily able to see if his clients were purchasing his cuvée without having to ask them. Located at the top of the Pomerol plateau, the château is currently managed by Alexandre Thienpont. The vineyard is composed of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Being well-positioned and one of the oldest Pomerol properties, its wines are also some of the most sought-after.
