From the best Elgin vintage in a decade, according to Nico, comes a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that offer exceptional purity of fruit, detail, and finesse. The La Brune Chardonnay 2021 captures this with poise, stunning balance, cool florals, and well-integrated, charming oak. The La Brune Pinot 2021 is one of the most impressive new wines we have tasted this year. If you like purity, clarity and elegance, this is for you.
The La Brune Chardonnay is 50% destemmed, 50% whole-bunch pressed, spontaneously fermented, and raised in 228-litre 'untoasted' barrels' (30% new oak) for 12 months, allowing the terroir to shine through. The La Brune Pinot Noir is from a high-density single vineyard planted to five different clones; the soil is ferricrete with a bit of clay. The Pinot follows a very similar regime to the Chardonnay, with a touch more new oak. The timber is from the Pierre du Bourgogne forest and the barrels are custom-made for La Brune.
