'From estate’s oldest red-wine block, planted 1999, 2 years in new French oak, stately 2017 has a powerful structure yet the texture is velvety, voluptuous black cherry & currant fruit promising to develop tobacco & pencil shaving complexity. Long future, as 2016 (4.5 stars, 93 pts).' – Platter's Guide, 5* (95/100)

'Franschhoek is southeast of Paarl, and if any red variety is associated with the area, it would be Cabernet Sauvignon. La Bri’s Irene de Fleuriot makes elegant, understated versions. Aged for 24 months in 100% new oak, this shows cassis, pencil shavings and leafiness on the nose while the palate is lighter-bodied than many but still wonderfully pure and fresh. Drinking Window 2020 - 2025.' – Christian Eedes, Decanter, 95/100 (South African Cabernet Sauvignon: 40 wines to buy)

Producer information The 50-hectare boutique winery, La Bri, was originally granted to Jacques (Jacob) de Villiers in October 1694. Jacques became a very successful farmer and bought Boschendal from his brother Abraham’s estate in 1717. The estate was passed through a number of owners and families until it was bought by Robin Hamilton in 1997. L’ Abri is French for ‘the refuge or Haven’, a perfect name for this property, as it is safely nestled in the imposing amphitheatre of the Franschhoek valley. All La Bri wines have a different unique Cape flower on the label, with the exception of the Syrah, which appropriately features herbs.
