Mullineux Kloof Street Rouge 2018 Bottle size: 750ml

South Africa, Swartland

'A house blend rather than a Rhône blend,' says Andrea Mullineux of this intriguing cuvée of equal parts Tinta Barocca and Syrah with 12% Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan. Fragrant, spicy and rich, with structured tannins and 25% whole bunches, it's a lot of wine at the price. Drink 2021-25.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 91/100

'Earlier-drinking option, varieties chosen for area history. 2018 step change, with 45% tinta just leading syrah, splashes grenache, cinsaut, carignan. Light textured & fruity as ever, enough in reserve for few years.' – Platter's Guide, 4*

'The spicy perfumed nose has undertones of dark fruits. Each variety in the blend adds balance to the wine, filling your palate. Tinta Barocca brings tannin, Cinsault brings perfume, Carignan brings freshness, Grenache brings fruit character , and the Syrah ties it all together. Enjoy now and over the next 2-3 years.' – Andrea Mullineux, Winemaker

Producer information With over a decade of dedication to Syrah in the Swartland, and considering the consistency and track record across their various bottlings, Chris and Andrea Mullineux are possibly SA’s best Syrah producers today. At the cutting-edge of SA fine wine, the Mullineuxs have received many ground-breaking awards and, since 2007, have focused their Swartland efforts on Syrah and Chenin Blanc. Their extensive knowledge of Swartland soils, and what Andrea calls a ‘growing technical maturity‘, has consistently led to the release of some of the most definitive expressions of the Swartand’s various terroirs. Produced in minute quantities, these are must-have, collectors’ wines.
