This non-vintage Sweet Fortified wine pays tribute to this part of the Cape’s wine history but adds a dashing element of irreverence. As the grapes fermented, pure grape spirit was added to arrest the fermentation process and capture the essence of nectar, honey and natural sugars. Ageing in oak barrels broadened the wine, giving it power and weight in a cloak of sweet, delicious elegance.

'Fortified after-dinner treats not first thing that spring to mind here, but debut NV can stand among SA’s best. Honeydew melon in mouthful that’s sweet but whistle-clean, lively, invites a second sip. Successive vintages (2015-2018) of mostly chenin, muscat, viognier & sauvignon blended in a solera-style system into delicious whole. Certified as ‘Fortified Natural Sweet’. 'A multi-varietal blend from the 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 vintages, the different batches picked late and then fortified, the intention being to incorporate subsequent vintages according to the solera method. The nose shows candied orange, dried apricot, caramel, some nuttiness and spice. The palate is very rich and smooth textured before a savoury finish. About Project Z:
With Project Z, the team of winemakers at Kleine Zalze has free rein to interact with nature, to search for the ultimate expression from a vineyard and to push the boundaries of creativity and innovation in order to keep growing and evolving.

The 'project' originated back in 2014 from discussion between owner, Kobus Basson and the winemaking team. From the debates, the 'project' grew and today the cornerstones of the Project Z wines are a selection of vineyards on extraordinary sites and an impressive collection of Italian amphorae that were steadily acquired since 2015. And of course, a dedicated, committed, and skillful team.

The first wine was bottled in 2017 and by 2020 a unique range of signature wines were ready for release. Dressing the bottles was the only missing component. The packaging follows through on the journey of discovery and allows the winemaking team to own the full process of the creation of the first wines to be released in this range.
