'Clear, spicy red fruit with herbal hints on 2017. Bright, fresh acidity & gently grippy tannins, the oak (38% new) supportive. Should harmonise into a robust elegance with a few years in bottle, & develop longer.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (93/100)

'The 2017 Syrah Kershaw GPS Klein River has a bold and brassy bouquet of black cherries, boysenberry and raspberry preserve aromas, touches of peony and incense developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, lightly spiced with bay leaf, clove and a touch of curry leaf. I am just seeking a touch more mineralité and tension on the finish, but otherwise this is a very fine, quite substantial Syrah. Drink 2022-2036.' – Neal Martin, Vinous, 92/100 (Apr 2021)

'Klein River is in eastern Stanford and has a marked ocean influence. Planted in 1998 with Clone 1, the vineyard has produced a racy, perfumed, slightly saline Syrah, with undertones of wild herbs and liquorice, red cherry and pomegranate flavours and stylish oak. Drink 2020-25.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 92/100

'Restrained, yet with intent and subtle power, this vineyard exhibits high levels of rotundone producing piercing black pepper, powdery tannins complete with rich textures and a prodigious breadth of black-orientated fruit. The 2017 shows a mid-ruby colour, a nose heady with aromas of black pepper, cinnamon stick, star anise and black cherry panna cotta. Succulent in texture, this medium bodied Syrah is voluminous with a core of juicy Morello cherries, liquorice and molasses complexed with gorse bush, baked plums, bay leaf and angostura bitters underpinned with fine grippy tannins and a long lush finish.' – Richard Kershaw, Winemaker
