'Subtle, complex, ripe aromas on 2018. A rich intensity, yet refined & finely balanced, with silky acidity giving a lively vibrancy & lemony grip. Long, widening finish seems to reverberate for ever. 40% new oak average. Like 2017 (4.5 stars, 94 pts), delicately powerful. Malo discouraged on all the chardonnays. Also in 1.5L.' – Platter's Guide, 5* (96/100)

'The 2018 Chardonnay Kershaw Clonal Selection Elgin, matured in 40% new oak (228- and 500-liter Burgundy barrels) offers impressive intensity on a nose of orange zest, Japanese yuzu and hints of dried honey. It is slightly more pithy than the Duivenhoks Chardonnay. The palate is well balanced with a precise but substantial opening. A little denser than other cuvées from Kershaw, it offers superb concentration on the finish. Touches of brioche and chamomile linger long after the wine departs. Superb. Drink 2022 - 2036.' – Neal Martin, Vinous, 93/100 (Apr 2021)

'From four clones planted across nine different sites. Spontaneously fermented and matured for 11 months in French oak, 39% new. White flowers before citrus and some yeasty complexity on the nose. The palate balanced with good fruit concentration and nicely coated acidity, the finish long and savoury – precisely made and full of detail.' – Winemag Prescient Chardonnay Report 2019, Top 10 (93/100)

'Richard Kershaw blocked the malolactic fermentations on his Elgin Chardonnay to preserve acidity in a warm vintage. Made from nine different vineyards, this is still a comparatively ripe, textured style, more Meursault than Puligny-Montrachet perhaps, with buttery lees, some nectarine and citrus fruit and subtle wood. Drink 2020-24.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 92/100

'Restrained, mineral style focussed on elegance with a white fruit character, some oatmeal and some complexity gained from percipient applied wood.' – Richard Kershaw, Winemaker
