'The 2013 Paul Sauer is a more or less 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot that is matured 24 months in 100% new French oak (Seguin Moreau, Demptos and Nadalie). It has an attractive bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit intermingling with star anise and a touch of Chinese five-spice. The palate is medium-bodied and very well balanced with a fine seam of acidity, very impressive purity, and a suave and sophisticated finish that renders this Paul Sauer (as always) a superb value. It will surely give two decades of drinking pleasure. Drink 2019-2039.' – Wine Advocate, 93/100

'(aged for 23 months in all-new French oak): Bright ruby-red. Pungent aromas of blackberry, licorice and bitter chocolate. Juicy and sharply delineated; a lovely expression of dark berry fruits with a satisfying balance of sweetness and acidity. This very shapely wine finishes with a firm tannic spine to support extended aging. Winemaker: Abrie Beeslaar. Drink 2019-2026.' – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 91+/100

'Regarded as a SA ‘first growth’ Bordeaux-style blend, traditionally cab-based with cab franc, merlot, as in 2013. Reflects vintage’s bright fruit; elegantly spiced cab berries. Fresher, less muscular than 2012 but no shortage of potential. Choice of formats up to 18L.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5*

'Layers of black fruit, perfume and cedar wood creates complex nose and palate also offering cigar box and vanilla tobacco. This blend offers a more integrated and complex profile than its single Cabernet Sauvignon counterpart. The acid, alcohol and integrated oak provides a balance and assures fantastic ageing potential. With some patience you will be rewarded with a gem.' – Abrie Beeslaar, Winemaker
