Back to 2015 and Drouhin continues to demonstrate what a class act they have become. When I asked Véronique that old chestnut of what vintage she would compare it to, after a pause for thought, she offered the 2002. "The 2015 has lovely structure but with a nice roundness," she remarked with respect to the reds, "whereas the 2005s were more tannic. In 2015 everything was good. Everyone was at the level they should be, from village cru to grand cru. There was nothing that needed to be declassified into a lower level." One knock-on effect from the depleted 2016 is that they have tried to purchase more fruit in 2015, although that is not easy when there is so much demand. That's where loyalty comes into play.' – Neal Martin

Very close to Beaune, this is a small appellation around the tiny village of Chorey, at the foot of the hill of Corton. The vineyard of Chorey-les-Beaune was founded in 1237 by Edouard de Froment, the Duke of Burgundy'step-nephew. The wine is often sold under the more common appellation of Côte-de-Beaune Villages.

'The 2015 Chorey-les-Beaune Village, tasted from a 500-liter demi-muid, has a vivid bilberry and dark plum-scented bouquet, a hint of blue fruit coming through with time and identifying its appellation of origin. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, tight on the mid-palate with a surprisingly structured and strict finish. I would like a little more contrast by the time it is in bottle, more exuberance.' – Wine Advocate 86-88/100

'This initially displays a touch of reduction though it quickly dissipates to reveal pretty and ripe red berry fruit and earth scents. The delicious middle weight flavors possess a lovely sense of energy that also characterizes the refreshing finish. This isn't particularly complex but it is certainly attractive in its fashion and would make for a good all-around and inexpensive house red.' – Allen Meadows 87/100
