Tasting notes:
‘Perhaps the best version of this wine I've tried, the 2018 Condrieu Vernillon (tasted from tank prior to bottling) features just the merest hint of toasty oak (80% was fermented and aged in amphorae) layered over tropical fruit and apricot notes. It's full-bodied, round and lush but also spicy and complex, with a long, silky-textured finish. Drink 2019 – 2024.’ – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 93-95/100

‘Translucent, green-hued yellow. Assertive orchard and pit fruit and orange peel scents are complemented by building honey and fennel flourishes. Concentrated and energetic on the palate, offering intense white peach, pear and tangerine flavors that become spicier as the wine opens up. A floral quality appears on the seamless finish, which shows a hint of smokiness and excellent persistence. This wine was raised in a 75/25 combination of unlined 500-liter amphoras and neutral demi-muids. Drinking window 2021 – 2027.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 94/100

About Domaine Jamet:
Jean-Paul Jamet is arguably the leading producer in Côte-Rôtie and his approach has not changed over more than 40 vintages. He continues to produce hauntingly beautifully, but remarkably traditional wines. The wines of Domaine Jamet appeal to wine lovers around the world seeking classic, tensioned wines that show honesty and the soil in which they are grown. One of the most traditional wine producers in Cote-Rôtie, Jean-Paul blends 25 parcels, mostly from the Côte Brune, and uses little new oak and most of the stems. His maturations are longer than most and his wines are released later than other producers. Jean-Paul is slowly handing over custodianship of one of France’s great domaines to his son, Loïc.
