‘The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Eloquence Grand Cru is stellar. Ample and beautifully resonant, the Eloquence is just loaded with character. Orchard fruit, dried flowers and chamomile all open up in the glass, but it is the wine's textural feel and balance that I find most captivating. The Extra Brut Eloquence is the same wine as the Brut Conversation, but with no dosage. Usually, lowering dosage yields wines of greater tension, but here, the effect is the exact opposite, as the non-dosé version has quite a bit more body. This release is based on 2014, with 20% reserve wines, mostly Mesnil, with 10% Oger and Avize. Disgorged November 23, 2017. 2019-2027’ – Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 94/100

| Producer information | You can find JL Vergnon in the heart of the Grand Cru village Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. According to Pieter Liem they are ‘one of the top estates in the Côte des Blancs today’. Apart from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, they also have vineyards in Oger and Avize, Vertus and Villeneuve. They grow only Chardonnay, blending more than 20 parcels together. This five-generation Champagne house has been managed by Didier Vergnon since 1999. |
