Wine Cellar has partnered with Shire Capital (FSCA no. 52718) to present a unique international fine wine investment offering, using an Actively Managed Certificate (AMC) listed on the Swiss Exchange. Wine Cellar will act as advisor in wine selection for the portfolio.
With Liv-ex widely accepted as the benchmark for fine wine pricing (with more than 875 million historic price points), the Liv-ex 1000 is regarded as the broadest measure of the fine wine market. As the graph below indicates, the LX 1000 has been growing around 7% per annum since inception more than 20 years ago.
Why invest in international fine wine?
Natural supply constraints on production, followed by consumption on release, mean that natural price appreciation ensues after 15+ years as stocks diminish.
Fine wine has shown to offer long-term, uncorrelated returns to mainstream assets.
Being GBP denominated, it offers South Africans a rand-hedge opportunity for a long term depreciating ZAR.
