Platter’s Newcomer Winery of the Year – The Vineyard Party
Our very own Jolette Steyn, Head of Sales and Imports, has just released her 2019 I’m Your Huckleberry Sémillon from her exciting solo project, The Vineyard Party. Last year her maiden release won over all the critics, including Jamie Goode, Neal Martin and Platter’s, where she was named Newcomer Winery of the Year – one of their highest accolades!
The 2019 is 'nicely focused', writes Neal Martin, with waxy, floral aromatics and burnt orange top notes on the nose. The palate is vibrant, boasting white stone fruit, spice and shaved almonds – once again ‘showing off Sémillon in a beautiful way’, as Jamie Goode commented on the 2018 vintage. Winemaking includes some skin contact and whole-bunch fermentations, pulling the style of the 'electric' 2018 Here Be Dragons into the I’m Your Huckleberry 2019. From a vineyard in Bot River and picked just before the heatwave hit, the wine has remarkable freshness.
Her maiden vintage sold out in record time and we're thrilled to have a small allocation of this year’s scarce release.
Due to low berry set and baboons feasting on the grapes as they ripened, 2019 saw a decrease in the total production, resulting in a small-batch production of exceptionally high quality.
