The Vouvray wine-producing area lies to the east of Tours on the right bank of the Loire River. The region first began to produce wine in the year 372 when the Marmoutier monastery was founded by Saint Martin. The Vouvray Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, created in 1936, covers 2,000 hectares encompassing eight communes and represents around 300 wine-producing estates.

The authorised grape variety is exclusively Chenin Blanc, or Pineau Blanc de la Loire. The only pruning allowed is short pruning with one or two spurs of two or three buds per branch, bearing in mind that a vine stock should never have more than thirteen buds.

The Huet estate now covers 35 hectares divided between three properties: Le Haut-Lieu, Le Mont and Le Clos du Bourg. Le Mont is an 8-hectare estate which borders the slopes of the Loire Valley, in the first slopes area. The soil is pebbly and consists mainly of green-coloured clay and silica. The wines produced are elegant and feminine.

Tasting notes:
'This is a wonderful straw colour with hints of bright yellow. It is still quite closed and conservative, showing ripe mango and wet earth notes. The palate is quite primary and perhaps needs more time in bottle. The sweetness fades into a mineral, taut finish.' – Roland Peens

At all 3 properties, planting distribution is as follows :
15 % of vines are between 1 and 10 years old,
35 % of vines are between 10 and 30 years old,
50 % of vines are between 30 and 50 years old.

Producer information Domaine Huet is the region's most famous producer. Known for their elegant, flinty style, the domaine's wines are amongst the finest and longest lasting white wines in the world. Produced from 3 vineyards in varying degrees of sweetness depending on the vintage, the hallmark of Huet's wines is their unmistakable freshness and natural acidity. Domaine Huet was established in 1928 and has been farmed biodynamically since 1990. Each of Huet's three iconic vineyards imparts a different signature to its wine. Le Haut-Lieu's deep limeston-clay soil produces wines that typically blossom early. Le Mont has less clay and more stone, yielding young wines of intense minerality. With age, Le Mont cuvées develop great length and finesse. And due to its extremely shallow, stony soils, Clos du Bourg often synthesizes Le Mont's intense minerality with Le Haut-Lieu's generous texture.
