About Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat:
Established in Vougeot in 1962 by Alain Hudelot, Hudelot-Noëllat has quietly risen to the top echelon of Côte de Nuits producers. In 2008, Alain retired and his grandson Charles van Canneyt took over, making wines of great refinement and complexity. They farm sustainably on their 10 ha of vineyards planted across 15 different appellations, spread over the villages of Nuits-Saint-George, Vougeot, ChambolleMusigny and Vosne-Romanée. This includes the Grands Crus Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Richebourg and Clos de Vougeot. Hudelot-Noëllat is known for its old vines which average more than 50 years old with several vineyards dating back to 1920.

‘The Hudelot-Noëllat wines are always the most elegant in a line-up. Their fresh acidity, deft use of oak and terroir-driven style appeals to the traditional Burgundy lover seeking long-ageing wines’ – Roland Peens

Tasting notes:
'An exuberantly expressive and spicy nose offers up a lovely mélange of pure red and dark cherry and floral aromas. The sleek, indeed satin-textured middle weight flavors brim with minerality on the super-saline infused finish. I really like the delineation and energy here plus the mid-palate concentration is better than usual. In 2016 this is very Chambollesque in character.' – Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 90-92/100

'The 2016 Vougeot 1er Cru les Petits Vougeot has a clean and pure bouquet with dark cherries and raspberry coulis scents that are well defined, if just a tad conservative. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite energetic on the entry and then segueing into a structured, denser finish of black and blue fruit. As such I would afford this three or four years in bottle.' – Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate, 88-90/100

Notes on the winemaker and vintage: 'Alain Hudelot's grandson Charles Van Canneyt described 2016 as "one with a very difficult growing season given the deep April frost and severe attack of mildew. Our losses averaged 35% but it was highly variable as the vineyards located in Chambolle, Vougeot and Bourgogne were much more damaged. By contrast our vines in Vosne suffered relatively little. The mildew was a constant concern but provided that you were vigilant and treated exactly when it was necessary, we managed to avoid much damage. I began picking on the 28th of September and had so little fruit that everything was harvested in only 3 days! Besides, the fruit was really impeccably clean so there was virtually nothing to eliminate. I destemmed everything due to differences in maturities that you could have even in the same vineyard plus I did a longer than normal cool maceration.

As to the wines, they are wonderfully fresh and bright and I think that they will be so refreshing and seductive young that so many will be drunk in their youth that we may never find out if they'll be able to age!" I found the Hudelot 2016s to be generally excellent and in particular the Vosne 1ers showed a great deal of promise; for value, the domaine has once again made a fine Bourgogne. I was equally enthusiastic about the now in-bottle 2015s, revisited below, as they confirm the quality that I found from barrel last year. Van Canneyt noted that they were bottled in January and February 2017.' – Allen Meadows, Burhound.com
