‘Regal, precise & harmonious blend, more cab (50%) 2022, with carignan (both Stellenbosch) & cinsault (Wellington), fragrant violet, wild berry, earthy fynbos & spice on nose & flawless palate. Pure fruit in perfect harmony with 10 months older oak, long, lifted savoury finish. Last tasted was 2019.’ – Platter's Guide, 5* (95/100)
‘Back after a break in 2020, this is the best release yet of Divergent, showing the energy of the 2021 vintage. Combining equal parts Wellington Carignan, Helderberg Cinsault andPolkadraai Cabernet Sauvignon, it's a wonderful Cape tribute to Lebanon's Château Musar. Earthy, complex and savoury, with tangy acidity, savoury tannins and layers of damson, cranberry and cassis. 2023-30’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2022, 95/100
‘Famously inspired by Chateau Musar, after Wilson heard the late Serge Hochar of the Lebanon property speak at the 2014 Swartland Revolution. Roughly equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan and Cinsault. Extremely attractive aromatics of cranberry, strawberry, cassis, floral perfume and fresh herbs. The palate possesses a dense core of fruit, zippy acidity and grippy yet not astringent tannins. Very nicely envisioned – neither too light nor too heavy. Alcohol: 13.5%’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100

Producer information | Hogan Wines is a small, family-run business with Jocelyn Hogan Wilson as Winemaker. 2014 was the first vintage for Hogan wines. Their vines are grown in the Swartland and their wine produced in the Banhoek Valley. Jocelyn says of their wines, ‘our wines are never going to be consistent. We don’t want to make wine to a recipe; we want to make natural, site-specific, vintage driven wines.’. |
