The Stork Shiraz 2019 has been listed as one of the top 10 Shirazes and awarded a Gold medal at Syrah du Monde, France 2023.
‘Always enjoyable to taste alongside Gravel Hill, a Syrah that is grown just 800 metres from this one, The Stork comes from vines on deep, clay-rich loam. Plush, smooth and perfumed, with some fynbos and lavender top notes, stylish 40% new wood, blackberry and red berry fruit and tannins that are folded into the structure of the wine. 2025-32’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2023, 95/100

‘Rich & intense shiraz, is packed with both swagger & charm. Firm but ripe & fine tannins cloak bold yet elegantly spiced black cherry & plum fruit, honed & polished by 20 months in barrel. Showing youth, but promises great rewards for cellaring.’ – Platter’s Guide, 5*(95/100)

‘Grapes from clay-rich soils, matured for 20 months in barrel, and all very heady and opulent. A top note of violets before pepper, vanilla and spice on the nose while the palate is particularly dense – a slight impression of sweetness (alcohol again 14.5%) is offset by bright acidity and firm tannins. Will seduce many.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 93/100

Producer information Hartenberg is situated in its own self-contained valley on the slopes of the Bottelary Hills in Stellenbosch. It was created 30 years ago and has come a long way since its original poor parcel of dry gravelly soil. Hartenberg was one of the first South African estates to separately vinify grapes from a particular terroir. The 170-hectare property has a pure water source running through it, and a number of birds and animals which call Hartenberg their home. As such, the owners and staff have accepted responsibility for the conservation of the property through considered and sustainable use of all natural resources and various environmental initiatives.
