'Bouncing back from the fires in 2019 - and then some - this is the best young Pinot Noir release I've tasted from Hamilton Russell. Representing a subtle shift in style towards greater perfume and fruit, this is a detailed, finely judged blend of clones 113, 115 and 667, with svelte tannins, tidy acidity, rose petal top notes and skilfully integrated oak. Drink 2022-28.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 96/100

'Matured for 10 months in 228-litre French oak barrels, 25% new. Cranberry, wild strawberry, musk, fresh herbs and white pepper on the nose while the palate is light and very fresh with crunchy tannins – delicate and discreet.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 90/100

'Our low-vigour, stony, clay-rich soil, cool maritime mesoclimate, naturally tiny yields of well under 35 hl/ha and our philosophy of expressing our terroir in our wines – give rise to a certain tightness, tannin line and elevated length to balance the richness and generosity of our Pinot noir. Our Pinot noir is not overtly fruity, soft and “sweet” and it generally shows hints of that alluring savoury “primal” character along with a dark, spicy, complex primary fruit perfume.' – Hamilton Russell Vineyards

'Generosity of fruit complimented by intriguing reduction and spice. The wine shows notes of cranberry, wild strawberry, blood orange, salinity, tea leaf, slate-like minerality and juicy acidity with a lingering, moreish finish. An incredibly pure richness coupled with white pepper spice and hint of charred wood. Makes for a really great Pinot Noir. Cellar for a few years before opening' – James Pietersen (May 2021)

Producer information Tim Hamilton Russell founded Hamilton Russell Vineyards in 1975 when he purchased a 170 hectare undeveloped property and turned it into one of the most southerly wine Estates in Africa. He was one of the trailblazing producers of Pinot Noir and certainly the driving force behind the birth of Pinot Noir in the greater Walker Bay district. His son Anthony Hamilton Russell, the current second generation owner, took over in 1991 and purchased the property from his father in 1994. He has made his mark both internationally and locally with the Estate producing some of the country’s finest Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs.
