‘2019 was a challenging vintage in Stellenbosch, but thanks to good viticulture and plenty of patience and grape sorting, Glenelly has made an impressive Lady May. Cabernet Sauvignon takes the lead here, aided by a chorus of 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. To be enjoyed before the 2018 and 2017 releases, this is fresh, harmonious and elegant, with filigree tannins, cassis and bramble fruit and well-integrated 70% new wood. 2024-35’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2023, 96/100

‘75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Initially, the wine spent 12 months aging as individual components in 30 – 40% first-fill barrels. After blending, it was returned to 75% first-fill barrels for an additional 12 months. Rose, quite pronounced but entirely pleasant herbal character, red and black berries and pencil shavings on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied compared to vintages like 2015 and 2016 – a wine of purity and brightness. Poised and intricate with powdery tannins, the finish long and marked by a slight salty quality. Alc: 14.5%.’ – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 96/100

‘Youthful and pretty nose of fresh blackberries, fresh plums, cocoa, tobacco and pine cones. Elegant and beautifully framed, with fine and precise tannins, a medium to full body and a long, fresh finish. 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and 10% Merlot. Drink from 2025’ – James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, 94/100

Producer information Glenelly was established in 2003 with a clear vision to produce long-ageing fine wine. It was started by May de Lencquesaing, previous owner of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Bordeaux. Much work has gone into the vineyards, cellar and winemaking but, more notably, their old-world patience has contributed to the wines. The winery is environmentally friendly and the vineyards are managed with minimal intervention and sustainable techniques.
