‘This is a bold and powerful yet layered and nuanced wine, with hints of green peppercorn, tobacco leaf, cigar box and leather that add depth and interest to the cassis and brambly blackberry core. The gripping palate offers structured, mouthcoating tannins that are framed by ample acidity and ripe black berry tones. Notes of spicy black licorice and espresso unfold on the long finish. It's delicious now, but this will age beautifully through 2020.’ – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100

‘The 2011 Lady May is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot, matured in 100% new oak. This has a more refined, complex bouquet than the 2010, offering ample blackberry, graphite and cigar box aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannin and a fine line of acidity. I like the cohesion of this Cabernet blend, and the grainy, tobacco- and black pepper-tinged finish that feels reassuringly classic in style. Very fine. 2018-2029’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 92/100

‘The 2011 Lady May is based on 85% Cabernet Sauvignon that is ahead for 24 months in new French oak. It has a very pure bouquet with backward, blackberry and cedar scents merging with peppermint with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, more masculine than the Grand Vin de Glennelly witih graphite and cedar towards the oaky finish. It will need several year to fully absorb the oak. I appreciate here the saline finish that lingers in the mouth. 2018-2030’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 92/100

‘This has density and energy, with savory and tobacco notes adding lift to the dark currant, blackberry and black cherry fruit core. Exhibits cassis bush and singed mesquite hints on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2017.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 90/100

‘Very dark crimson. Very firm and Cabernet. But with some sweetness on the front palate and then definite rigour and dryness on the end. Quite a bit of tannin. Distinctive and not typically South African. Much better made than the SA Cabernets trying to be bordeaux made in the early 1990s. 2018-2025’ – Jancis Robinson,, 16.5/20

Producer information Glenelly was established in 2003 with a clear vision to produce long-ageing fine wine. It was started by May de Lencquesaing, previous owner of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Bordeaux. Much work has gone into the vineyards, cellar and winemaking but, more notably, their old-world patience has contributed to the wines. The winery is environmentally friendly and the vineyards are managed with minimal intervention and sustainable techniques.
