‘Grapes from a 1957 vineyard planted on the Helderberg – the wine named for the tiny bunches that these bushvines yield. Fermented and matured for 10 months in older barrels and terracotta. Pear, peach, citrus, fynbos, straw and talcum powder on the nose while the palate has great fruit delineation and zippy acidity. Substantial yet balanced and not short of energy. ‘The Geographica Chenin Blanc 2020 show a luminous pale lemon hue with a hint of green. On the nose the wine displays an intense stone fruit, quince, ginger, yellow apple and stony minerality. Constantly evolving in the glass, the wine takes on savoury saline aroma, subtle nuttiness and gunflint. The palate is almost overwhelmingly intense and rich, balanced by an energetic acidity and dense fruit weight. The pithy phenolic mid palate gives volume and structure and he wine finishes pleasingly long.’ – Winemaker
