'The idea behind having two Syrahs is to represent the two major soil types prevalent at Gabriëlskloof. Our sandstone vineyards produce a Syrah that is elegant and aromatic while the heavier shale soils offer fruit concentration and depth.' – Peter-Allan Finlayson, Winemaker
'This used to be a single vineyard wine but now hails from four blocks on the same slope, all on sandstone. Picked a week before the shale Syrah because of the heat of the soils, it's a grippy, intense, savoury wine with blackberry and raspberry fruit, some lavender, white pepper and pine, lovely minerality and subtle, nuanced oak. Drink 2023-30' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 95/100

'Violets and pomegranate lead to a light, peaty reduction and sweet spices like sumac and cinnamon for an intense nose. The palate is silky and opulent, with hints of dark chocolate and a waxy grip that works alongside fresh acidity to add tension and structure. Will improve beyond 2025 to 2030.' - Peter-Allen Finlayson, Winemaker

Producer information Gabriëlskloof was established in 2001 when Bernhard Heyn discovered the Avontuur farm, located on the outskirts of Botrivier. He purchased the land and created Gabriëlskloof as we know it today. On the farm, they are passionate about incorporating environmentally friendly practices, where possible, and Gabriëlskloof is a WWF Conservation Champion farm. Cellar Master, Peter-Allan Finlayson, has been at Gabriëlskloof since 2014 and has reshaped the Gabriëlskloof aesthetic. Their wines aim to reflect the complexity, richness and diversity of Gabriëlskloof's unique terroir.
