'It became apparent soon after the conclusion of my first vintage that Gabriëlskloof is ideally suited to growing Cabernet Franc. The most aromatic and elegant of the five Bordeaux varieties belongs on our slopes, and bottling it as a single variety was an easy decision.' – Peter-Allan Finlayson, Winemaker

'Picked later than the 2018, which Peter-Allan Finlayson found "too green", this remarkable 2019 comes from an equal combination of shale and sandstone soils. Rich, yet focused, fleshy yet refined, it has cassis and black cherry fruit, supple tannins, fine oak and a graphite top note. Drink 2022-28.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2021, 95/100

'Aromas of nutmeg and cloves lead to a full and vibrant palate showing mulberries, redcurrant, bramble and Black Forest cake. Powdery tannins are wonderfully integrated and part of a lingering, decadent finish. A fuller-bodied vintage with the structure to age beyond 2030.' - Peter-Allan Finlayson, Winemaker

Producer information Gabriëlskloof was established in 2001 when Bernhard Heyn discovered the Avontuur farm, located on the outskirts of Botrivier. He purchased the land and created Gabriëlskloof as we know it today. On the farm, they are passionate about incorporating environmentally friendly practices, where possible, and Gabriëlskloof is a WWF Conservation Champion farm. Cellar Master, Peter-Allan Finlayson, has been at Gabriëlskloof since 2014 and has reshaped the Gabriëlskloof aesthetic. Their wines aim to reflect the complexity, richness and diversity of Gabriëlskloof's unique terroir.
