'This venerable Oloroso betrays its purity and unsullied nature by the lightness of its pale russet colour. It's deeply aromatic, yet finely composed in terms of its aromatic profile, with dried apricot, peach and even mango combining with an orange peel tang and a basmati-rich cereal sweetness. The palate is coruscatingly dry and hugely concentrated; all of those aromatic notes harmonise with almost elixir-like force. This is a hugely exciting Oloroso with which to challenge any wine lover who doesn't yet understand the treasures which linger and lurk in the sherry region.' – Decanter World Wine Awards, 97/100

'The NV Oloroso VORS, produced with Palomino grapes and aged in a solera system for an average of 30 years shows a bright dark amber color. It starts with some reductive notes, which might seem like a contradiction for a wine that has aged oxidatively for such a long time, but it all depends on how long the wine has been in bottle. If this happens to you, with this or any other old Sherry, you only need to give it plenty of air. I know it’s not very convenient, but once the producer has gone through the trouble of aging the wine for such a long time and you go through the expense of purchasing one of this bottles, you might as well wait one day rather than using it for cooking or pouring it down the drain. Anyway, once it blows away, the bright orange-colored wine reveals a pleasant nose of toffee, ash, chestnuts, honey and orange marmalade. The palate is intense, with flavors of cedar wood and spiced nuts, ending slightly salty.' – Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, 93/100

'Pale tawny. Heady and rather sweet and raisiny on the nose. Then bone dry and tangy on the palate. An extreme statement of a wine. Fresh and like a sea breeze. But an insider's wine.' – Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20

'Old gold colour, with bronze hues. This wine has aromas of nougat, dried apricots and plums. Intense and mouth filling, reminiscent of marron glacé on the palate and old brandy, due to its great concentration.' – Winemaker

Producer information Emilio Lustau was created in 1896 by José Ruiz-Berdejo who was an almacenista in Jerez. Today, the historic producer is considered the global standard-bearer for top quality Sherry. Lustau was named Best Spanish Producer at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in London, while the oenologist Manuel Lozano, who sadly passed away in 2016, was awarded the Best Fortified Winemaker title seven years in a row. Lustau’s philosophy has remained the same since its inception in 1896: the pursuit of the highest quality in order to offer the widest and finest range of Sherry.
