Domaine Trimbach: 400 years of Alsace mastery

Domaine Trimbach

400 years of Alsace mastery

Domaine Trimbach is ‘one of the steadfast stars in the Alsace firmament’, says Vinous. They’ve been cultivating some of the world’s best dry Rieslings for almost 400 years, from entry-level offerings that are ‘better than ever’ to their showstopping Clos Ste Hune – ‘the only Alsace wine that’s appreciated just as much for investment as for drinking’ (Decanter).

A signature wine that’s been made for centuries is the magnificent Trimbach Riesling Frédéric Emile 2018. It’s crafted from two Grand Cru vineyards that overlook the estate and shows ‘richness underneath with strong, racy citrus notes’ (Jancis Robinson).

The Trimbach Riesling 2022 is a terrific introduction to the range, offering citrus, chamomile and flint on the palate. A step up in concentration and complexity, the Trimbach Riesling Réserve 2022 is ‘stony, bright, juicy, lip-smacking and taut’ (Vinous).

The star of the show, however, has to be the Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste Hune 2018 – a collectors' dream. At 99+ points, the 2018 vintage is the second-highest-rated Clos Ste Hune in Wine Advocate history – just a breath behind the 100-point 1989. This harmonious Riesling is crafted from a tiny parcel and combines ‘great finesse and salinity with power and substance’ (Wine Advocate).

Due to limited availability, the Clos Ste Hune is only available in a pack, which includes Trimbach’s ‘delicious, complex Pinot Gris (Jancis Robinson) from 2018, the ‘vivid’ Trimbach Pinot Noir Réserve 2022 (Vinous), the Riesling Réserve, and two Frédéric Emile 2018s.
