Founded in 1950, Domaine Jamet started with just 4 hectares of vines back when Côte-Rôtie was not known for bottled wine. The family have since expanded their vineyards and now own the largest portion of this preciously small appellation. Their vineyards are planted almost entirely with Syrah vines; at the average age of 50 years old. While there are a number of small cuvées in the cellar, their focus is on the Côte-Rôtie. Often quoted as the purest expression of Syrah on earth, the Jamet-style has not changed in 5 decades. It fell out of favour in the 1990s and 2000s when Parker promoted a riper, more oak-driven style. Today, it is one of the Rhône’s most sought-after wines. If the highly-sought after Côte-Rôtie is unavailable, look out for the Côtes du Rhône from just outside the appellation which is very much a softer Côte-Rôtie.

‘Aside from Guigal, I know of no other producer with such extensive experience with so many of Côte-Rôtie's various lieux-dits. Tasting at Jamet hilltop cellar is always a study in geology and microclimate more than anything else, as the winemaking is resolutely traditional. All of the Côte-Rôtie parcels are vinified as whole bunches, and there's still only a small proportion of new wood in the cellars, so it's possible to really taste nuances in the various barrels. Jean-Paul Jamet is always gracious with his time and wine, making it a true pleasure to visit.’ – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

Tasting notes:
'(sourced from a site in the Côte Chatillon) Light green-tinged yellow. High-pitched, mineral-accented orange zest, melon and violet aromas show impressive clarity and vivacity. Silky and sharply focused on entry, then more fleshy in the midpalate, offering vivid citrus fruit and honeydew flavors complemented by a subtle chamomile quality. Finishes with emphatic mineral cut and solid thrust, eventually leaving a suave floral note behind.' – Josh Raynolds,, 93/100

'The first vintage for this cuvée, the 200-case 2015 Condrieu Vernillon is a beauty! Brought up in a mix of barrels and tank, it’s a rich, textured white that offers lots of textbook citrus blossom, hints of apricots, flowers and subtle minerality. It’s already drinking great, but will keep for 3-4 years.' – Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 91/100
