'The 2017 Domaine de Chevalier is deep garnet-purple in color with a nose of baked plums, black cherry compote, fruitcake and violets plus wafts of fragrant earth and rosehip tea. 'Rich, deep ruby in colour, and once again Chevalier proves that it has a better handle on difficult vintages than so many other chateaux. 'The 2017 Domaine de Chevalier was impressive from barrel. Bottled since June 2019, it has clearly retained that gorgeous nose with delineated scents of blackberry, black olive, shucked oyster shells and orange rind. Wonderful vigour here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, lithe and very focused. It is not a powerful nor indeed a long-term Domaine de Chevalier, ergo my lower score than 2016. Bottom line is that it is just a delicious wine to consume. Still, it will offer 20 years of drinking pleasure. Tasted twice with consistent notes.' – Neal Martin, Vinous, 93/100 (Feb 2020)

| Producer information | Domaine de Chevalier is family-run, producing long-ageing wines and one of the world’s greatest whites. It dates back to the late 1600’s and has belonged to the Bernard family since 1983. Since 2015, Domaine de Chevalier has been the first major Bordeaux château to use Diam corks. The 120-hectare estate Is located in the middle of a forest which protects the vines from extreme temperatures. sustainable farming methods are practiced in the vineyards and over 30 hectares of vines are farmed using biodynamic farming techniques. |
