‘Hints of toasted hazelnut and molten stearine make for a smoky nose, followed by notions of red delicious apple with overtones of plum skin. The palate has a creaminess, a textural density and richness from full-fruited Pinot Noir. Bright freshness counters this generosity but the creamy texture and foam and fruitiness last into a very long finish.’ – Anne Krebiehl MW, falstaff.com, 94/100
‘Upfront pear and blossom at first here, although with time the smokiness of embers, butter and tropical fruits emerge. There is insistent, precise fruit presented with a real sense of style, although it needs longer in bottle for some of the oak-influenced texture to resolve. Half and half Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Aube’s Côte des Bar in this collaboration between Devaux and Michel Chapoutier. 2024-2030’ – Tom Hewson, Decanter, 91/100
‘The nose is pure indulgence: vanilla, brioche, warm bread, praline... but also lemon, zest and candied. On the palate, it is fresh and refined, with the body and intensity that is typical of the vintage. Lemon, bergamot, citrus zest and toast balance with beautiful tension. The finish is long, with chocolate notes. Sténopé is the perfect blend of generosity, ripeness and freshness. It is the "blessed" vintage.’ – Winemaker

Producer information | Sténope is a collbarotian between Champagne Devaux and Michel Chapoutier, ‘It all began with a meeting between Champagne and the Rhone Valley, around shared values of open-mindedness and respect for terroir. This encounter gave birth to a daring idea of creating a Champagne that is both rare and full of character,’ says Devaux of this collaboration. Located in Côte des Bar, Devaux was founded in 1846 by brothers Jules and Auguste Devaux. Thereafter, the house was managed successively by three widows, Claude-Joseph Devaux, Augusta-Maria Herbin and Marguerite Marie-Louise, who each elevated the success of Devaux. Since 1987 the house was entrusted to the family-owned trust Groupe Vinicole Champagne Devaux. |
