Delheim Edelspatz 2020 Bottle size: 375ml
South Africa, Stellenbosch
R400
'Glorious botrytis dessert from riesling. 2020 powers out the blocks with classic bouquet of marmalade, apricot, rye bread & honey. Rich & unctuous, but lovely, lively acid balances & sweeps through to lengthy finish. 9 months older oak. 12% alc. 375 ml.' – Platter's Guide, 5* (95/100)
'Roelof Lotriet worked at Château Coutet in Sauternes for a while, so he clearly knows how to make sweet wines. This 100% botrytis-affected Riesling is a triumph, with rich pastry and cooked pear flavours, lime-like acidity, 178 grams of residual sugar, effortless concentration and haunting balance and palate length. 2023-30' – Tim Atkin, MW, South African Special Report 2022, 95/100
'Being one of the best noble rot vintages in over a decade, the wine shows classic botrytis characteristics on the nose and complimented with honey suckle, dried peaches and marmalade. The wine has a perfect balance between sugar and acid, layered with bright fruit and orange blossom. Enjoy now or cellar for up to 30 years.' – Winemaker

Producer information | The family-owned Delheim estate, owned by the Sperlings, is located on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain. The late Michael Hans 'Spatz' Sperling, was the Patriarch of Delheim but his eldest son and daughter (Victor and Nora) now run the farm and live there together with their families. In addition to the vineyards on the Delheim farm, they also produce red grape varieties on a property known as Vera Cruz, located just a few kilometers away. They follow sustainable farming practices and produce a wide range of internationally acclaimed wines. |
