‘Consistently among the best Bordeaux style blends in the Cape, V features Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 13% Malbec, 12% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Floral, herbal and complex, it has a nice frame of 50% new wood, top notes of graphite and cigar box, textured tannins and layers of cassis, plum and oregano. 2025-35’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2023, 95/100

‘Once again, the Fusion V 2020 reveals itself as one of the leading Cape Bordeaux Blends in South Africa featuring 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 13% Malbec, 12% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The aromatics are bold and spicy with a fairly classically array of perfumed violets, sweet cherry tobacco, cigar box, dried herbs, graphite and sweet cedar wood spice over plush earthy black currant and black plum fruit nuances. In its youth, there are some overt oak notes evident, but they whisper quality and precision all the way, melting away into a cornucopia of textured palate layers with crème de cassis, salty black liquorice, plum spice, and pithy black cherry on the finish. The tannins are supple but tight grained and the acids soft, fresh and harmonious, keeping the luscious black fruit concentration in check. Unashamedly modern and generous, this Stellenbosch beauty from the Polkadraai Hills will drink well on release and cellar beneficially for a decade or more.’ – Greg Sherwood MW, 95/100

‘The iconic Left Bank-based blend, De Toren Fusion V is meticulously crafted from Bordeaux’s ‘Noble Five’ varietals and, with its complex flavours of dark sour cherry, a spiciness of tobacco, and a hint of aniseed, it offers a stylish departure for sophisticated oenophilic tastes. This is a stunning expression of a superb vintage as well as terroir. Soft as spun silk, this is a wine that will only improve with age.’ – Winemaker

Producer information De Toren acquired their first vineyards in 1991 and redefined the Bordeaux concept in South Africa ever since, establishing an iconic following. With the De Toren Fusion V, first the blends were decided upon and thereafter the vines were planted to match the blend. At De Toren the pursuit for perfection is evident in their grape selection and harvesting. They aim to 'create an environment where vines produce flawless fruit and then guard these grapes as they are gently steered from vineyard, to cellar to bottle' – De Toren.
