'Labelled as a non-vintage wine, but this is based on 2017 fruit with a generous dose of reserve wine. Pale, youthful, yet showing some subtle autolysis, it has pinhead bubbles, notes of citrus, fennel and white flowers and a fresh, vibrant, acidity-led finish. Drink 2020-23.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 92/100

'Pinot noir (52%) just shades chardonnay in crisp NV fizz. As with others, small portion reserve (15%) & oaked wine (10%) adds nuance to citrus vibrancy. Structured & defined from 30 months on lees & 3 post disgorgement.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (92/100)

'The Brut Reserve (disgorged April 2018) was 10% fermented in French oak barrel and includes 20% reserve vintages. It spent 30 months on the lees. The well-defined, focused nose features bright citrus lemon and hints of baked bread. The palate is well balanced with a taut, crisp, citric entry. This is vivacious, very pretty and graced with lovely apricot hints on the finish. A superb MCC from Colmant.' – Neal Martin, Vinous, 91/100

'Colmant Brut Reserve displays the house style, offering sophisticated freshness and elegance while revealing precision in acidity and the balance of flavours. On the nose: delicate with a mellow spicy toastiness, appealing lemon and brioche typicity and soft scents of mature stone fruit. On the palate: fresh, crisp entry with beautiful balance of citrus vivacity and acidity complementing the yeasty depth and fresh-baked bread flavours. Structured and elegantly refined, the wine retains its poise to a long, smooth and rounded finish.' – Winemaker

Producer information ‘Jean-Philippe Colmant is making some of the most expressive sparkling wines in South Africa,’ wrote Wine Advocate. This is particularly impressive given that Jean-Philippe had no prior experience in wine and knew nothing about the industry before starting Colmant. He was a businessman from Belgium who emigrated with his family to South Africa at the age of 36. After discovering the enchanting Franschhoek Valley, he purchased a 5-hectare lot and set up the first winery in South Africa solely dedicated to the production of Cap Classique. Winemaker Paul Gerber, once of South Africa’s leading Cap Classique makers, joined the team in 2019. Colmant continues to grow from strength to strength.
