‘The 2022 Pündericher Marienburg Grosses Gewächs Rothenpfad is the area above the viaduct with red-colored slate; these were parcels that had fallen fallow, but the Busch family was able to unite several parcels, re-cultivate and build a monorail track. The GG is made from vines between 70 and 100 years old, not the newer plantings. The nose is of red apple, with a smattering of pepper and subtle yarrow. The very fine palate tingles with spice, hints of saltiness and notions of tangerine peel with a pithy, textural streak, adding an extra dimension and beautiful depth. Long and elegant. | Producer information | Clemens is the 5th-generation winemaker at his family estate and began using organic practices in 1984. Later a pioneer in biodynamics, Clemens Busch is now a role model for natural, but precise German winemaking. Unlike most of the Mosel region, however, Clemens focuses on dry, elegant Rieslings that express the complex terroir of this historic region. Their unique soils in the town of Pündericherallow them to produce many iterations of the Riesling grape. Clemens Busch is based on the 3 types of slate – red, blue and grey – each imparting different characteristics and styling. |
