'Quite simply a beautiful wine, they're known for their Cornas, but this is exceptional Saint-Péray - it's expressive and eye-catching, but so pure and fresh. Honeycomb, pear and fennel. It's towards full-bodied, but in no way gloopy, still so drinkable. Great energy, and a long finish. Has the characteristic softness and generosity of Saint-Péray but it’s so drinkable despite its sizable proportions. Good value. Drinking Window 2021 - 2026.' – Matt Walls, Decanter, 95/100

'Stunningly aromatic nose, orange peel, mandarin, yuzu, lime and cantaloupe melon. A ripe palate with such complexity and intensity of fruit, rounded and a note of savouriness coming behind the layered fruit. Stunning purity and texture – a long and balanced finish. Remarkable value for money. GV.' – Alistair Cooper MW, JancisRobinson.com, 18/20

'The domaine's rarely seen 2019 Saint Peray comes from a single hectare of vines, planted to 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne. Notes of beeswax, honey and cinnamon appear on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is plush and fleshy, yet finishes long and crisp, with notes of apple and pear. Drink it on the young side. Drink 2021-2023.' – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, 91/100

Producer information Auguste Clape first went to Cornas in 1949 to marry his wife Henriette whose family owned 5 hectares of vines in the appellation. For many years, most growers in Cornas sold their fruit to négociants but Auguste became a local legend when he became the first to make wine from his own grapes instead of selling them. This decision set the tone for the future of Cornas. Today, his son Pierre-Marie and grandson Olivier Clape run the estate. Clape’s powerful and authentic Syrahs, produced from the region’s best granite soils, have become world renowned. They only produce two cuvées – the Cornas, from 40 to 90-year-old vines, and the Cornas Renaissance which is produced from their younger vines.
